Swedish Navy Prepares for Sea Giraffe 1X Radar Deployment with Training Initiative
Sweden has contracted 340 million SEK ($31 million) for Sea Giraffe 1X radars, enhancing naval capabilities. Training for operators and technicians will commence in autumn 2026, ahead of operational handover in autumn 2027.

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has contracted Saab for Sea Giraffe 1X radars worth 340 million SEK ($31 million), set for installation on new combat boats, surface ships, and autonomous vessels. Training for Swedish Navy personnel is planned to start in autumn 2026, preceding the operational handover in autumn 2027.
The Sea Giraffe 1X, a 3D radar with electronic counter-countermeasure capabilities, weighs between 150 to 350 kilograms and can detect small, fast-moving targets. The system's integration with various combat management systems is designed to enhance operational efficiency.
