Switzerland Accelerates Large-Scale Battery Installations
Switzerland is set to expand its battery storage capacity significantly, with over 4,350 MWh planned by 2030. The integration of solar power is key to the success of these systems, allowing for efficient energy storage and distribution.

Switzerland is poised for a substantial increase in battery installations, with a total of at least 4,350 MWh planned by 2030, enough to power over four million households for two hours. The largest operational battery, located in Kappel, can store 80 MWh, while a new facility in Gurtnellen will support nearly 120,000 households upon its September launch.
These batteries are privately funded and integrated with solar energy, enabling cost-efficient energy management. The rapid development of battery projects, often completed within one to two years, contrasts with other energy technologies that face public scrutiny. Batteries are expected to enhance grid stability and reduce reliance on pumped-storage plants, allowing for better seasonal water conservation.
