Synthos Green Energy and Blue Bird Energy Partner to Deploy BWRX-300 SMRs in Bulgaria
Poland's Synthos Green Energy (SGE) and Bulgaria's Blue Bird Energy (BBE) have signed a letter of intent to establish a joint venture for deploying up to six BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Bulgaria. The BWRX-300, designed by GE Vernova Hitachi, is a 300 MWe water-cooled SMR with advanced safety systems.
SGE, co-investor in the BWRX-300 design, is also involved in a project in Poland with ORLEN to deploy 24 BWRX-300 reactors, aiming for the first unit by 2032. SGE's partnership with BBE will enhance SMR development in Bulgaria, aligning with ongoing discussions about energy technology in the country.
Meanwhile, GE Vernova Hitachi and SGE's expertise will support Bulgaria's energy supply, which aims to integrate these modern reactors alongside existing projects at Kozloduy NPP. SGE plans to expand its SMR business across Central and Eastern Europe.
