Taiwan and Canada Enhance Clean Energy Cooperation in Geothermal and Hydrogen Sectors
Taiwan and Canada have formalized an energy partnership focused on geothermal power and hydrogen technologies, following a delegation visit in June 2026. This collaboration aims to bolster low-carbon energy solutions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

In June 2026, Taiwan's Energy Administration delegation, led by Director General Chih-Wei Wu, visited Canada to enhance clean energy cooperation, specifically in geothermal and hydrogen technologies. The Taiwan-Canada Energy Working Group Meeting addressed advancements in geothermal power generation and blue hydrogen, which is derived from natural gas with carbon emissions captured.
The Taiwanese team engaged with Canadian industry leaders and explored regulatory frameworks at the Alberta Energy Regulator, aiming to apply these insights to Taiwan's energy initiatives. This partnership is designed to diversify Taiwan's energy mix and improve energy security while contributing to both countries' net-zero emissions targets by 2050.
