Taiwan People's Party to Propose Revised Defense Budget After U.S. Meetings
The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) plans to propose a revised defense budget following Chairman Huang Kuo-chang's discussions with U.S. officials in Washington, D.C. Huang criticized the government's NT$1.25 trillion budget for its lack of clarity and noted that a significant portion would not be allocated for U.S. arms purchases. The TPP, which has previously blocked the government's budget proposal multiple times, aims to ensure transparency and proper management of defense spending without requiring U.S. approval.

The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) plans to propose a revised special defense budget after TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang's meetings with U.S. officials in Washington, D.C. Huang expressed concerns about the government's NT$1.25 trillion defense budget's lack of clarity regarding spending.
He stated a significant portion of the budget would not be used for U.S. arms purchases. The TPP has previously blocked the government's proposal in the legislature eight times since November 2023. Huang emphasized that the TPP does not require U.S. approval for its budget proposal, which will depend on information from the Ministry of National Defense's upcoming briefing. The TPP aims to ensure that defense spending is transparent and not mismanaged.
