Taiwan's MND Allocates NT$40.9 Billion for Disaster Communication Systems and Coast Guard Enhancements
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) has allocated NT$40.9 billion (US$1.3 billion) to enhance disaster communication systems and military facilities, focusing on procuring high-throughput satellite devices and tactical radios. This budget, representing 20% of defense expenditures, aims to improve national security resilience and address communication challenges during disasters. Additionally, the Coast Guard Administration will receive NT$14.8 billion for advanced surveillance technologies to bolster maritime security and response capabilities.

The Ministry of National Defense (MND) of Taiwan plans to procure high-throughput portable satellite communication devices and tactical broadband radios as part of a NT$40.9 billion (US$1.3 billion) budget aimed at enhancing national security resilience. This budget, which accounts for 20% of defense expenditures, includes upgrades to military facilities and communication systems over the next two years.
The MND's initiatives are intended to address communication issues during disasters, particularly in areas with weak infrastructure. Additionally, the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) will receive NT$14.8 billion for acquiring uncrewed aerial vehicles, thermal imaging systems, and smart surveillance systems to improve maritime security and response capabilities. This includes NT$7.26 billion for upgrading radar and imaging systems to mitigate blind spots and enhance monitoring in high-risk areas.
