Tajikistan Defense Serviceman Drowns in Kofarnihon River Incident

On April 28, 2023, Shahboz Jonmahmadzoda drowned in the Kofarnihon River after jumping off a bridge in Vahdat district. He had served in the Ministry of Defense's mine-engineering battalion for eight months and was on a 10-day leave.

Witnesses reported that prior to his jump, Jonmahmadzoda handed his mobile phone to a passerby, then abruptly entered the water, swimming approximately 500-600 meters before disappearing. Relatives noted he had expressed dissatisfaction with service conditions and had health concerns, including kidney pain. Efforts to locate his body are ongoing, as locals assist his family in the search.
