TECfusions will hold an informational meeting on January 26 regarding its data center project in Upper Burrell, Pennsylvania. The company acquired a 1,395-acre site at the former Alcoa Research Center in December 2024.
The data center will utilize natural gas available at the site for power, with only 280 megawatts sourced from West Penn Power. TECfusions plans to implement sustainable cooling methods instead of using water.
The site could eventually hold 3 gigawatts of power, significantly exceeding the capacity of the Three Mile Island power plant, with a 20-year timeline for development. TECfusions is working through a $2 million grant from Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
Local officials, including Upper Burrell Supervisors Chairman Ross G. Walker III, support the project, viewing it as a positive economic development opportunity.
