Tehachapi Planning Commission Approves Housing Project Amid Water District Dispute
The Tehachapi Planning Commission approved a housing project comprising 96 units despite objections from TCCWD General Manager Tom Neisler, who cited outdated environmental documents. The project, originally entitled in 2005 and recently approved in 2022, has backing from the local defense industry. The commission also passed a resolution for a new Cerro Coso Community College campus, which TCCWD supports, amid ongoing mediation and litigation between the city and the water district regarding another housing project.

At a Tehachapi Planning Commission meeting, TCCWD General Manager Tom Neisler objected to the approval of 96 housing units, citing outdated environmental documents from 2005. Assistant City Manager Corey Costelloe stated the project, entitled in 2005 and with plans approved in 2022, includes 32 buildings and is supported by the local defense industry.
The city and TCCWD are in mediation over a separate housing project, with ongoing litigation regarding compliance with state law. The commission approved the housing plans 4-0, along with a resolution for a new Cerro Coso Community College campus, which TCCWD supports.
