Tennessee Governor Lee Proposes $58 Billion Budget Focusing on Nuclear Energy and Education

FUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER

Governor Bill Lee proposed a nearly $58 billion budget during his final State of the State address, emphasizing investments in nuclear energy and education. His plan includes nearly $340 million for public schools, aiming to increase teacher salaries to $50,000 by 2027 and double the school voucher program to potentially assist 40,000 families.

Concerns exist among some lawmakers regarding funding for the expanded voucher initiative. Lee also proposed over $100 million for nuclear energy, asserting Tennessee's leadership in the 'nuclear renaissance' and requesting $25 million for a nuclear energy fund.

Tennessee has already invested $8 billion in nuclear energy, generating thousands of jobs. The state is set to become the first with a small modular reactor in Oak Ridge. Additionally, Lee announced a $1 billion national grant for rural healthcare and nearly $500 million for transportation projects.
