Textron Unveils MMUSV with Enhanced Capacity for U.S. Navy Mine Countermeasures

DEFENSE

Textron's MMUSV is designed to enhance capacity and survivability, doubling fuel and payload capacity to 13,000 pounds compared to earlier CUSV generations, with a towing capacity exceeding 4,000 pounds at 20 knots. The craft operates effectively in Sea State 4 and survives up to Sea State 5, suitable for challenging conditions in the Western Pacific, North Atlantic, and Arabian Sea.

The MMUSV features autonomy in collision avoidance and can perform advanced swarm behaviors, allowing coordinated missions with multiple units. Textron reports a 50% cost reduction compared to the fourth-generation CUSV and doubled operational range.

The MMUSV supports U.S. Navy mine countermeasures, extending unmanned sweeping capabilities and reducing risks to crewed vessels. It also aligns with the Navy's Distributed Maritime Operations, enhancing sensor capabilities within adversarial zones. The MMUSV could serve as a platform for containerized effects, reflecting the U.S. strategy of utilizing attritable systems to increase maritime effectiveness.
