Thai Navy Implements Roadmap for Domestic Shipbuilding Amid Frigate Procurement
The Royal Thai Navy is advancing its domestic shipbuilding capabilities through a three-stage roadmap, initiated during discussions with the Thai Shipbuilding and Repairing Association. This initiative aims to enhance national defense industry competitiveness while conducting frigate procurement.

The Royal Thai Navy is pursuing a three-stage roadmap to enhance domestic shipbuilding capabilities in conjunction with its frigate procurement strategy. The initiative includes learning from foreign shipbuilders, transitioning to partial domestic production, and achieving full independent shipbuilding.
The Navy outlined five operational dimensions for the offset framework: domestic investment, research and technology transfer, personnel training, co-production, and domestic resource utilization. An open approach to evaluation criteria will be adopted, rewarding bidders that offer higher added value through domestic efforts. This initiative is expected to bolster Thailand's defense industry, create jobs, and improve technology development, ensuring long-term national security.
