Thailand Launches Atlantic Salmon Farming Research Project
Kasetsart University initiates a research project to explore domestic Atlantic salmon farming, supported by PTT LNG. This project aims to reduce Thailand's annual import costs of 8 billion baht for salmon and assess the commercial viability of local production.

Kasetsart University has commenced Thailand's first Atlantic salmon farming research project in collaboration with PTT LNG. The study utilizes recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) to optimize fish growth and manage nutrition while evaluating economic feasibility.
The project will assess the potential for a sustainable domestic salmon industry, addressing the country's substantial annual salmon imports valued at 8 billion baht. RAS technology is intended to provide controlled water conditions and reduce environmental impacts. Initial phase research has received 20,000 fertilized Atlantic salmon eggs imported from Chile, with expectations to establish a foundation for future commercial salmon production.
