Thailand's Gripen E/F Fighter Jet Production Commences
Thailand begins production of the Saab JAS 39 Gripen E/F, marking a significant step in its military modernization efforts.
The first Saab JAS 39 Gripen E/F fighter jet for Thailand has entered production at SAAB's facility in Linköping, Sweden. This development follows a contract signed in August 2025 for four Gripen jets under the 'Peace Burapha 1' programme, with a total value of 19.5 billion baht.
The procurement phase is scheduled from fiscal years 2025 to 2029, with deliveries expected to begin in 2029. A second phase for four additional jets is planned for fiscal year 2028, aiming for a total acquisition of 12 aircraft to replace older F-16 A/B models. Thailand's collaboration with Sweden includes ongoing discussions on defense initiatives, indicating a strengthened bilateral relationship.
