Tim Kosiba Appointed as Deputy Director of NSA Amid Leadership Changes
Tim Kosiba has been named the deputy director of the National Security Agency (NSA), tasked with directing operations, managing civilian leadership, setting policy, and overseeing the agency's strategy. His appointment follows months of leadership vacuums and staff turnover.
Kosiba has previous experience at NSA and the FBI and was vetted for the position last month. Initially, Joe Francescon was considered for the role but was not appointed due to criticism from far-right activist Laura Loomer regarding his political donations and alleged connections to China.
Kosiba’s career includes significant roles in cyber operations, including technical director for Joint Functional Component Command for Network Warfare and chief of computer network operations. He will face challenges related to declining morale and workforce cuts within the agency.
Army Lt. Gen. Joshua Rudd is set to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee regarding his nomination to lead NSA and Cyber Command.
