Tinubu Approves Oil Drilling at Tongeji Island and Olokola Deep Seaport in Ogun State
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling at Tongeji Island in Ogun State, as announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun. This development marks Ogun's entry into oil production.
Additionally, President Tinubu has authorized the immediate launch of the Olokola Deep Seaport project in Ogun Waterside, now named the Blue Marine Economic Zone, aimed at reducing congestion at Lagos ports and enhancing economic opportunities for coastal communities. The Governor emphasized the importance of these projects for economic inclusion and empowerment.
The Nigerian Navy has also established a Forward Operations Base at Tongeji Island to improve security and prevent criminal activities from neighboring Benin Republic. Governor Abiodun's administration is committed to providing basic amenities to residents to support the emerging economic activities.
