Tobyhanna Army Depot Engineers Reduce Costs and Time for Patriot System Cables
Tobyhanna Army Depot is improving the efficiency of cable assemblies for the Electric Power Plant III, part of the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system, by reverse engineering existing cables. This initiative, prompted by deficiencies identified by CECOM, has led to the development of prototypes and funding for additional units, significantly reducing costs and production times while establishing a domestic source for cables. The effort aligns with the Department of War's strategies to enhance support for warfighters.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is developing efficient cable assemblies for the Electric Power Plant III, a generator for the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system. In 2024, CECOM identified deficiencies in the existing cables and tasked Tobyhanna to reverse engineer them.
The depot's team has produced two prototypes, with funding for 27 more, enhancing cable manufacturing capabilities. Previously, reliance on international companies led to high costs and long lead times for connectors.
Tobyhanna's efforts have resulted in significant cost reductions and faster production, establishing a domestic source for cables. This initiative aligns with the Department of War's strategies to support warfighters more effectively.
