Tongland Hydro Power Station Undergoes £2m Refurbishment
Tongland hydro power station in southern Scotland has completed a £2m refurbishment, enhancing its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. This restoration is part of Drax's broader investment into renewable energy infrastructure, reinforcing the facility's operational capacity for the future.

The £2m refurbishment of the Tongland hydro power station, part of the Galloway Hydro Scheme developed in the 1930s, has been completed. The category A-listed structure's exterior was restored using specialist materials to ensure its preservation.
This project is part of Drax's commitment to renewable energy, which also includes the installation of approximately 1,500 solar panels across the Galloway and Lanark hydro schemes. The Galloway scheme, operational since 1935, comprises six power stations and has the capacity to power hundreds of thousands of homes. The refurbishment aims to extend the lifespan of this historic facility, which has played a significant role in Scotland's energy landscape for nearly a century.
