Top LNG Exporting Countries in 2024: USA, Australia, and Qatar Lead Global Market
The GIIGNL Annual Report 2025 identifies the USA, Australia, and Qatar as the top three LNG-exporting countries. LNG's strategic importance for Europe and the global energy market is increasing, with Asia remaining the primary market. The USA exported approximately 85.4 million tons of LNG in 2024, followed by Australia with 79.2 million tons and Qatar with 78.2 million tons.

In 2024, the USA was the largest LNG producer with around 85.4 million tons, accounting for over 20% of the global trade volume of 411.2 million tons. Key export terminals are located along the Gulf Coast.
Australia produced approximately 79.2 million tons, primarily serving Asia, with major projects in Western Australia. Qatar, the third-largest exporter with 78.2 million tons, is expanding its capacity significantly.
Russia, Malaysia, and Indonesia follow as notable exporters. In Europe, LNG imports have increased, driven by the need to replace Russian gas, with significant investments in terminals in Germany enhancing import capacity.
