Toplane Sarajevo Issues Tender for Geothermal Water Exploration in Ilidža
Toplane Sarajevo has launched a public call for hydrogeological exploration of geothermal waters in Ilidža, following approval obtained in January 2025. The project aims to utilize renewable energy sources for district heating, reducing natural gas use and improving air quality. The initiative, part of a broader geothermal energy project started in July 2020, has social benefits and is supported by a letter of intent for funding from the Sarajevo Canton and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Toplane Sarajevo has initiated a public tender for hydrogeological exploration of geothermal waters in the Ilidža area, with the aim of creating a well for district heating purposes. This follows approval received in January 2025.
The project is intended to utilize renewable energy sources, thereby reducing reliance on natural gas and improving air quality. Toplane began the geothermal energy initiative in July 2020, with funding support from the Sarajevo Canton and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development formalized in a letter of intent signed in November 2021. The project is expected to enhance the quality of life in the Ilidža area by providing a sustainable heating solution.
