TotalEnergies and APA Corp. to Begin Drilling at GranMorgu Offshore Suriname in 2027
TotalEnergies and APA Corp. are set to begin drilling at the GranMorgu offshore project in Suriname in 2027, with the construction of the FPSO currently at 50% completion and first oil anticipated in 2028. Meanwhile, Staatsolie has sanctioned the Sloanea-1 gas project, which is expected to produce first gas by 2030, and ongoing exploration efforts include several new wells and seismic surveys in the region.

Exploration drilling offshore Suriname is ongoing as the GranMorgu deepwater project advances, with FPSO construction at 50% completion. TotalEnergies and APA Corp. plan to commence drilling of production and injection wells and subsea infrastructure installation in 2027, aiming for first oil in 2028.
Staatsolie recently sanctioned the Sloanea-1 gas project in Block 52, operated by PETRONAS, which will utilize a floating LNG vessel, with first gas expected in 2030. Exploration efforts in 2022 included the Macaw-1, Caiman-1, and Korikori-1 wells.
Current drilling targets include the Araku-deep well and Roystonea-2. Future plans involve SAC-1 and Kiskadee-1 wells in Block 52 and ongoing seismic surveys near Saramacca and Coronie. Staatsolie also entered production-sharing agreements for offshore blocks 9, 10, and 66 with several partners in 2025.
