Toyota Invests $500 Million in Arizona Proving Ground for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Vehicle Testing
Toyota has announced a $500 million investment in its Arizona Proving Ground, enhancing its capabilities for hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle research. The modernization includes 77 miles of test tracks, a new 5.5-mile oval circuit, and facilities dedicated to hydrogen vehicles, set to be completed by December 2025. The center, operational since 1993, will also serve third parties under the Arizona Mobility Test Center brand, fostering collaboration in advanced automotive technologies.

Toyota is investing $500 million to upgrade the Arizona Proving Ground (TAPG) by December 2025, adding 77 miles of test tracks and a new 5.5-mile oval circuit, focusing on hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle development. The TAPG, covering over 12,000 acres, will feature advanced testing facilities, including those for the Mirai and hydrogen fuel cell trucks.
The site will be open to third parties through the Arizona Mobility Test Center, promoting collaboration. Challenges for hydrogen include high production costs and limited refueling infrastructure. The initiative aims to strengthen Arizona's role in automotive testing and create specialized job opportunities.
