TRI Initiates Agri-Voltaic Project to Boost Farmer Incomes in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh
Transform Rural India (TRI) has launched an agri-voltaics initiative aimed at helping farmers in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh generate solar energy while cultivating crops. The project enhances income and reduces irrigation costs significantly, benefiting over 20,000 farmers.

Transform Rural India (TRI) has initiated an agri-voltaic project targeting farmers in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, enabling them to generate solar energy and cultivate crops simultaneously. This project has already assisted over 20,000 farmers, with a significant example being a 43-kilowatt system in Uttar Pradesh that irrigates 100 acres for 160 farmers.
The installation cost per household is below ₹50,000, drastically lowering irrigation costs from ₹6,000-7,000 to under ₹2,000 per hour. TRI focuses on underserved villages, forming Village Energy Committees (VEC) that include at least 50% women to manage agreements and tariffs, which range from no charge to ₹5,000 annually.
Additionally, the grids are designed for future needs and support economic activities like irrigation and mill operations. The initiative not only improves livelihoods but also enhances educational opportunities and village dignity. This model may serve as a template for similar projects across India.
