Türkiye's Ports Handle Record 553 Million Tons of Cargo in 2025
In 2025, Türkiye's ports achieved a record cargo handling of 553.26 million tons, marking a 4% increase from the previous year, as reported by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. Notable growth was seen in incoming cargo, which rose by 5.6%, while liquid bulk cargo dominated the categories at 169.7 million tons. Major ports like Aliağa, Kocaeli, and Iskenderun led in volume, and the sector is poised for further expansion in 2026.

In 2025, Türkiye's ports handled a record 553.26 million tons of cargo, an increase of 4% from the previous year, according to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. Cargo shipped from Turkish ports increased by 0.4% to 142.7 million tons, while incoming cargo rose by 5.6% to 271.6 million tons.
International maritime freight transportation grew by 3.8% to 414.4 million tons. The Aliağa Regional Port Authority recorded the highest handling volume at 89.5 million tons, followed by Kocaeli at 83.9 million tons and Iskenderun at 70.9 million tons.
Liquid bulk cargo was the largest category at 169.7 million tons, with significant increases in non-briquetted coal, crude oil, and LNG. The largest export destinations were Italy, the U.S., and Egypt.
Container handling grew by 3.5% to 14 million TEUs, led by Ambarlı, Kocaeli, and Tekirdağ ports. The sector aims for further growth in 2026.
