Türkiye's Space Initiatives Accelerate with New Satellite and Somalia Spaceport
Türkiye is advancing its space capabilities through the completion of the Turksat 7A satellite design, a forthcoming lunar mission in 2027, and the construction of a spaceport in Somalia. These initiatives aim to enhance the country's technological independence and secure long-term access to space.

The design phase for the Turksat 7A communications satellite is nearing completion, with production set to commence shortly. Türkiye is also targeting a lunar mission scheduled for June 2027, utilizing a SpaceX launch vehicle and a domestically developed hybrid propulsion system from DeltaV.
Additionally, a spaceport is under construction in Somalia, leveraging its equatorial location for advantageous rocket launches and attracting global commercial interest. Concerns regarding space debris management and the operational status of over 14,500 satellites are growing.
The upcoming International Astronautical Congress in Antalya has garnered a record of 8,300 submissions, reflecting increased engagement in the sector. The interplay of global conflicts and cyber warfare underscores the need for robust space infrastructure.
