Trump Authorizes $175 Billion Golden Dome Missile Defense Project in U.S.

DEFENSE

Donald Trump has authorized the construction of a missile defense system named the Golden Dome, aimed at protecting the U.S. from foreign aerial attacks. The project, officially called Layered Homeland Missile Defense, is estimated to cost $175 billion, with potential costs significantly higher, possibly exceeding a trillion dollars.

More than 2,370 companies are vying for contracts, including major defense firms like SpaceX and Lockheed Martin. The system combines sensors, interceptors, and space elements to counter threats such as ICBMs and hypersonic weapons.

Analysts suggest that the Golden Dome could require a decade for full operational capability, with the most expensive components being space interceptors. The project may also feature 85,000 armed satellites, vastly outnumbering existing satellite systems. The strategic importance of the system includes enhancing U.S. space dominance and securing areas like Greenland against potential threats from Russia.
