On December 18, 2025, President Donald Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2026, which authorizes $900.6 billion for the U.S. Department of War and related national security activities.

The NDAA, passed with bipartisan support (312-112 in the House and 77-20 in the Senate), includes provisions for defense acquisition reform through the SPEED and FoRGED acts and emphasizes modernization in areas such as emerging technologies, shipbuilding, and munitions production. Key initiatives focus on streamlining procurement, enhancing service member quality of life, and improving the defense industrial base.

The legislation authorizes over $25 billion to rebuild the U.S. munitions arsenal and more than $26 billion for naval shipbuilding. Notable omissions from the final bill include the reauthorization of small business innovation programs.
