Turkey Advances Energy Projects in Occupied Cyprus, Undermining Reunification Efforts
Turkey is investing in the occupied regions of Cyprus, focusing on energy projects that reinforce its control. The planned natural gas pipeline and electricity interconnection highlight Turkey's long-term strategy to maintain separation rather than pursue reunification.

Turkey is set to begin construction of a double natural gas pipeline in the occupied territories of Cyprus, measuring approximately 55 cm in diameter and 97 km in length, with work scheduled to commence in Q3 2026 and finish by 2028. This project is part of a broader strategy that includes an electricity interconnection, demonstrating Turkey's intent to establish itself as a regional energy hub while disregarding the prospect of Cyprus reunification as outlined by United Nations resolutions.
A water transfer pipeline from Turkey to the occupied Panagra area is already operational, facilitating further integration of the occupied territories into Turkey's infrastructure. These developments indicate Turkey's commitment to its partitionist approach amidst international inaction.
