Turkey and US Move Toward Resolution on S-400 and F-35 Issues
The US and Turkey are close to resolving sanctions stemming from Turkey's acquisition of the Russian S-400 system, with potential re-entry into the F-35 program. This development is critical for NATO's defense strategy and may impact Turkey's military procurement plans, including future fighter jet acquisitions.

The US and Turkey are nearing a resolution regarding sanctions imposed after Turkey's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense systems. US Ambassador Tom Barrack highlighted improvements in bilateral relations during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, stating that Turkey's return to the F-35 program is being discussed.
Sanctions under the CAATSA were enacted following Turkey's 2019 acquisition of the S-400, which the US claims threatens NATO security. Additionally, a settlement with Halkbank regarding sanctions violations could further ease tensions.
The S-400 system's removal would be pivotal for Turkey's re-engagement with the F-35 program, where it initially sought to purchase 100 units. Turkey is concurrently developing its own KAAN fighter jet, expected by 2028, and seeking to procure Eurofighter Typhoons and F-16s.
