Turkish Envoy Sonmez Highlights Progress in Kuwait-Turkey Relations
Ambassador Sonmez emphasized substantial advancements in Turkey-Kuwait relations during her tenure, including a significant increase in bilateral trade and cultural initiatives. The partnership is set to continue evolving with a focus on defense cooperation and environmental awareness initiatives.

During her term, which began on June 2, 2022, Turkish Ambassador Sonmez reported that bilateral trade surpassed $1 billion for the first time in 2025, marking a 52 percent increase. High-level exchanges, such as the Amir of Kuwait's visit to Turkey, have elevated relations to a strategic level.
The Turkish Embassy hosted over 150 events, including those marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024. Defense cooperation expanded with Kuwait's procurement of the Bayraktar TB2 UAV.
Additionally, the embassy launched initiatives for environmental awareness and enhanced people-to-people ties through the Embassy Diwaniya initiative. Sonmez expressed gratitude for Kuwait's support following the 2023 earthquakes in Turkey, highlighting the enduring bond between the nations.
