TVA Grants $3 Million to University of Tennessee for Nuclear Engineering Advancements

FUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced a $3 million endowment to the University of Tennessee's nuclear engineering department to advance clean energy and bolster East Tennessee's nuclear innovation. The funding, revealed on January 8, will support faculty recruitment, expand academic programs, and enhance workforce development.

The region is experiencing a surge in nuclear investments, with nearly $2 billion pledged for Oak Ridge in late 2025. TVA aims to develop a skilled workforce to meet industry demands and has previously partnered with various companies for nuclear projects. In 2023, Tennessee's Governor created a Nuclear Energy Fund to support the university's new nuclear engineering minor, reflecting a long-standing regional focus on nuclear science.
