U-Tapao Airport Project Begins Delivery Phase After Delays
The U-Tapao megaproject is now in its delivery phase following significant delays, with an initial investment of THB10 billion. This project aims to develop U-Tapao into a vital commercial airport hub, targeting an eventual capacity of 60 million passengers annually, reflecting shifts in tourism and aviation demand post-Covid-19.

The U-Tapao megaproject has entered its delivery phase, following the signing of a joint contract management agreement between EECO and UTA on January 29, 2026. The initial stage focuses on the passenger terminal with an investment of THB10 billion, while expansion will commence once capacity utilization reaches 80%.
The project aims to transform U-Tapao into a third major airport for Bangkok, facilitating tourism and logistics. Concurrently, the Royal Thai Navy is constructing Runway 2, set for completion by May 2028, alongside supporting infrastructure. The success of this initiative hinges on attracting airlines and investors, crucial for establishing a comprehensive aviation hub in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
