UAE and Canada Finalize Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
The UAE and Canada have completed negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Cepa), aimed at reducing trade barriers and enhancing investment ties. This agreement is part of the UAE's strategy to strengthen its non-oil economic base, with a target of $1.089 trillion in non-oil foreign trade by 2031.

The UAE's Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Cepa) with Canada, finalized in 47 days, seeks to lower trade barriers and enhance market access for Canadian firms in sectors including energy and AI. This follows a $50 billion investment pledge from the UAE, primarily focused on liquefied natural gas and major infrastructure projects.
In 2025, bilateral trade between the countries is projected to reach $2.48 billion, with a 10% annual growth rate. The Cepa marks the UAE's 38th agreement since 2021 and aligns with Canada's strategy to diversify trade away from the U.S. amid ongoing tariff disputes. The UAE aims to boost its non-oil economy, reflecting a significant shift in its trade policy.
