The UAE has launched its first floating solar power plant off Nurai Island, set to begin producing electricity imminently. This pilot project will assess the viability of similar floating solar initiatives in the region.

Floating solar technology can benefit Dubai's manmade islands by generating electricity without occupying beach space. However, costs for offshore installations are approximately three times greater than land-based systems.

Despite financial challenges, the project is anticipated to enhance efficiency through sea reflections and cooling effects. Clean-energy developer Masdar is also constructing Indonesia's first floating solar project, reflecting growing interest in this technology.
