UAE's Orbitworks to Launch Altair Satellite for Global Earth Observation Market
Orbitworks plans to launch its Altair satellite this autumn, marking the UAE's transition from technology importer to exporter. The satellite will utilize advanced on-board AI to provide high-frequency Earth observation data, significantly enhancing market competitiveness in sectors such as energy and emergency services.

Orbitworks, based in Abu Dhabi, will ship its Altair satellite to California for a launch this autumn, with the satellite set to operate in a 500km orbit. By next year, the company aims to deploy a constellation of 10 satellites, enabling image capture of specific locations every three hours, a significant improvement over the standard daily frequency.
The satellites will utilize Nvidia chips for real-time data processing, allowing clients to obtain actionable intelligence within minutes. This strategic use of US and European components facilitates market access to Western clients, with Orbitworks already securing its first European customer and engaging potential North American buyers.
The implications for industries such as oil, insurance, and defense are substantial, as enhanced monitoring capabilities could transform operational efficiencies. The success of this venture will depend on execution and global acceptance of technology developed in Abu Dhabi.
