UAH Secures $14.2 Million Federal Funding for Exploration Plaza Expansion
The University of Alabama System and UAH have received $14.2 million in federal funding for the Exploration Plaza expansion, thanks to U.S. Senator Katie Britt and U.S. Rep. Dale Strong. The funding aims to enhance research, innovation, and student opportunities in Huntsville, with plans for a mixed-use innovation district covering 58 acres. The project is expected to generate economic activity and strengthen UAH's role in the local high-tech economy.

The University of Alabama System and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) have secured $14.2 million in federal funding for the Exploration Plaza expansion, facilitated by U.S. Senator Katie Britt and U.S.
Rep. Dale Strong. Britt obtained $10 million through THUD/HUD, while Strong acquired $4.2 million via CJS/NIST.
The project, covering 58 acres, aims to create an innovation district that integrates research spaces, student facilities, and industry partnerships. This initiative is anticipated to boost economic activity and enhance job opportunities in Huntsville's technology and defense sectors.
