UES Receives $75 Million Air Force Contract for Biotechnology and Materials Science Development
The U.S. Air Force has awarded UES, a division of AeroVironment, Inc., a $75 million contract to enhance biotechnology and materials science through the FRESH program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Over 60 months, the project will focus on developing advanced polymers and responsive materials, utilizing biomanufacturing and artificial intelligence to optimize Air Force assets and improve human performance. This initiative underscores the integration of biology and materials science in defense applications.

The U.S. Air Force has awarded UES, a division of AeroVironment, Inc., a $75 million task order to advance biotechnology and materials science under the Functional Responsive Experimentation for Systems and Humans (FRESH) program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
The 60-month Task Order 0003 focuses on developing advanced polymers and responsive materials to enhance the performance of Air Force assets in air, space, and weapons systems. UES will explore biomanufacturing, polymers, and responsive materials, integrating biological methods for material degradation and rare earth extraction.
The project will leverage artificial intelligence to accelerate discovery and environmental evaluation, aiming to optimize mission-critical assets and improve human performance. This work expands AeroVironment's collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory and emphasizes the convergence of biology and materials science.
