As 2025 ended, Uganda's energy and extractives sector entered a transformative phase, driven by infrastructure improvements and regulatory reforms. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development emphasized a cohesive development agenda integrating power generation, mineral processing, and oil project readiness.

The 600MW Karuma Hydropower Project marked a key achievement, enhancing Uganda's electricity export capacity. Smaller projects supported rural electrification. The extractives sector shifted from raw mineral exports to domestic beneficiation, with over 7,600 miners registered under a formalization initiative.

Petroleum development continued, including a refinery agreement with Alpha MBM Investments LLC and advancements in major oil projects. Clean energy initiatives progressed with LPG distribution and geothermal exploration.

Institutional improvements included digitized records and enhanced service delivery. Looking ahead to 2026, the sector aims to maintain growth momentum while attracting investment and promoting inclusive development.
