The UK government aims to position the country as a global leader in advanced manufacturing by 2035, targeting an increase in annual investment from £21 billion to £39 billion. Key initiatives include reforming the business environment and prioritizing six growth sub-sectors: advanced materials, aerospace, agri-tech, automotive, batteries, and space.
The sector currently supports 760,000 jobs and contributes over £82 billion in gross value added annually. AI investment reached £2.9 billion in 2024, but only 8% of manufacturers have successfully adopted AI.
The AI Opportunities Action Plan aims to enhance AI adoption, while a new Robotics and Autonomous Systems program will establish Robotics Adoption Hubs to aid SMEs. Modular buildings are highlighted as a solution for SMEs to create flexible facilities quickly, supporting the shift towards advanced manufacturing and enabling efficient growth.
