UK Allocates $1.35 Billion for 72 RCH 155 Howitzers to Enhance Army Capabilities
The UK government will invest 1 billion pounds ($1.35 billion) to acquire 72 RCH 155 howitzers, aiming to address a shortfall in artillery capabilities. This procurement supports over 500 jobs and is part of a broader modernization effort for the British Army.
The UK is set to spend 1 billion pounds ($1.35 billion) on 72 RCH 155 howitzers, with initial deliveries expected in 2028. This acquisition addresses a gap in artillery capability created by the transfer of AS90 systems to Ukraine.
The contract is awarded to ARTEC GmbH, a collaboration between KNDS and Rheinmetall, with production split between facilities in central and northern England. The RCH 155 can engage targets up to 70 km (44 miles) away and has a mobility speed exceeding 100 km (62 miles) per hour. This investment is part of the UK's largest defense spending increase since World War Two, amid delays in a comprehensive defense investment plan.
