UK Government Allocates £21.5m for Farm Innovation to Reduce Emissions

NATURAL GAS

The UK government is investing over £21.5 million in farm innovation projects aimed at reducing agricultural emissions and enhancing productivity. Through Defra's Farming Innovation Programme in collaboration with Innovate UK, 15 projects will receive funding, including the InFaba methane reduction initiative led by McArthur Agriculture, which will receive £1.49 million.

This project focuses on developing UK-grown faba bean-based feed to lower methane emissions from dairy cows. The three-year initiative combines crop science and nutrition research with on-farm trials to evaluate the economic and environmental impact.

This funding is part of a broader commitment to invest at least £200 million in agricultural innovation by 2030, supporting rural growth and food security. Other funded projects aim to improve resource efficiency and reduce carbon footprints across various agricultural sectors.
