UK Government Unveils Advanced Nuclear Framework to Boost Economy and Create Jobs
The UK government has introduced an Advanced Nuclear Framework designed to attract private investment in innovative nuclear technologies, with plans for 12 advanced modular reactors in Hartlepool and small modular reactors in Nottinghamshire, creating approximately 2,500 jobs. The initiative includes a streamlined process for project proposals and significant investments in existing nuclear projects. This framework aims to enhance economic growth and meet the increasing demand for clean energy as the UK transitions to a low-carbon economy.

The UK government has launched an Advanced Nuclear Framework aimed at stimulating private investment in innovative nuclear technologies to create thousands of jobs and drive economic growth. The initiative includes plans for X-Energy and Centrica to build 12 advanced modular reactors in Hartlepool, creating 2,500 jobs, and for Holtec, EDF, and Tritax to develop small modular reactors at the Cottam site in Nottinghamshire.
The framework provides a clear pathway for project proposals, with a 'concierge-style' service to assist developers with planning and regulation. The government has also authorized major investments in nuclear, including the Sizewell C project in Suffolk and the Wylfa site in North Wales.
The first advanced modular reactors are expected to be operational by the mid-2030s. The initiative aims to meet the growing clean energy demand while supporting the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy.
