Ukraine and Norway have signed an agreement to manufacture several thousand middle-range drones for Ukraine's armed forces, further supported by Norway's allocation of $7 billion for military aid in 2026. Ukraine's military spending has surged by 20% in 2025, reaching $84.1 billion, which is 40% of its GDP and the highest globally for the fourth consecutive year.
In contrast, Russia's military expenditure increased by 5.9% to approximately $190 billion, accounting for 7.5% of its GDP. The data indicates a growing disparity in military effectiveness as Russia faces significant troop losses, now reported at 2.1 times higher per square kilometer gained than in the prior year. As operational challenges mount, Ukraine's advanced technologies are proving integral to its defense strategy.
