Ukraine Launches Competitive Tender for UAV Procurement
Ukraine's Defense Procurement Agency has initiated its first open competitive tender for strike UAVs and reconnaissance systems, aiming to enhance military capabilities. This unprecedented procurement approach is designed to foster competition among local manufacturers and secure cost-effective solutions for the Defense Forces.

The Defense Procurement Agency of Ukraine has announced a significant open competitive tender for the acquisition of strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and middle-strike reconnaissance systems. This is the first instance where UAVs will be procured based on tactical characteristics rather than specific models, allowing broader participation from local manufacturers meeting technical standards.
Previous competitive procurement efforts, such as for long-range 155-mm ammunition, resulted in over 16% savings, setting a precedent for this initiative. The increased deployment of UAVs has led to a tenfold rise in strikes against Russian logistics and command structures, contributing to Ukraine's operational successes. Future plans include transitioning other unmanned system procurements to competitive procedures by summer 2026, reinforcing Ukraine's defense capabilities while adhering to anti-corruption measures.
