Ukraine to Launch UASAT-NANO Communications Satellite in October 2026
Ukraine's UASAT LEO project is set to launch its first satellite, UASAT-NANO, in October 2026, aimed at establishing a sovereign communications network to reduce reliance on foreign operators. The initiative, supported by the Ukrainian government and the EU, plans to deploy a constellation of 245 satellites and includes the formation of a space policy department within the Ministry of Defense to oversee satellite communications efforts. The project focuses on enhancing national security rather than competing with existing global networks like Starlink.

Ukraine's UASAT LEO project, developed by STETMAN, will launch its first satellite, UASAT-NANO, in October 2026. This satellite will serve as a test platform for key technologies in Ukraine's low-Earth orbit satellite network, which aims to reduce dependence on foreign operators.
Plans include a network of 245 satellites for sovereign communications in Ukraine and partner countries. The project has received support from the Ukrainian government and the EU, with international companies involved in component development.
UASAT LEO is not intended to compete with global networks like Starlink but aims to enhance national security. Additionally, Ukraine has established a space policy department within the Ministry of Defense to coordinate efforts in satellite communications.
