Ukraine's Chortkiv Implements Solar Energy to Enhance Power Supply Resilience

SOLAR ENERGY

In response to ongoing power supply challenges from Russian attacks, Chortkiv, Ukraine, has implemented solar energy solutions. The city has installed 14 solar stations with a combined capacity of 568 kW since 2016, primarily powering critical infrastructure like hospitals and water utilities.

In 2025, these solar installations generated 389.5 MWh of electricity, saving the municipality over 4.2 million hryvnias in electricity costs. The Ukrainian government is advancing a national strategy for distributed generation through 2035, aiming to enhance energy resilience. Chortkiv plans to expand its solar capacity to 1.1 MW, projected to save approximately 10.5 million hryvnias annually.
