Ukrainian Air Force Reports Upgraded Shahed Drones with MANPADS and Increased Payload
The Ukrainian Air Force has reported that Russian Shahed drones have been upgraded to include MANPADS and can now carry combat payloads of up to 90 kilograms. These modifications, which also incorporate advanced communication technologies and electronic warfare countermeasures, significantly enhance the threat to Ukrainian aircraft, prompting increased monitoring by Ukrainian intelligence. Recently, Ukrainian forces intercepted a drone equipped with a portable anti-aircraft missile system, allowing it to operate from Russian territory.

Ukrainian Air Force Command's Yuriy Ignat announced that Russian Shahed drones have been upgraded to include MANPADS and can now carry combat payloads of up to 90 kilograms. These drones have also been modified with communication technologies like Starlink and SIM cards, as well as electronic warfare countermeasures.
Ignat indicated that these enhancements, including increased warhead capacity designed to create debris clouds, pose a significant threat to Ukrainian aircraft. He emphasized that Ukrainian intelligence is monitoring these developments. Recently, Ukrainian forces intercepted a Russian drone outfitted with a portable anti-aircraft missile system, enabling operations from Russian territory.
