Ukrainian Military Sees Reduced Russian Advances Amid Recruitment Overhaul
Ukrainian military assessments indicate a significant slowdown in Russian advances, attributed to increased losses and recruitment challenges. Ukraine's new recruitment system aims to address manpower shortages and enhance troop morale with lucrative contracts.

Russian troops have shown a marked decline in their pace of advance, the slowest since 2022, according to Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky. He noted that the current rate over the past four months is less than the average monthly advance observed in 2025, coinciding with higher Russian losses and a decrease in recruitment rates.
Ukraine has implemented a revamped army recruitment system, offering contracts between six to 24 months with competitive salaries for frontline troops, ranging from 300,000 UAH to 460,000 UAH monthly. This overhaul aims to improve troop morale and address manpower shortages following a reliance on conscripts amid increasing desertions. The impact of these changes on the battlefield and upcoming negotiations remains to be seen.
