The RIO plans to consolidate overlapping regulations to expedite approval processes, reducing costs for businesses. A new 'Front Door' pilot scheme will allow sector businesses to influence regulations. Additionally, the UK Government has announced funding for five robotics adoption hubs, set to launch in the second half of 2026, to assist companies in integrating robotics into their operations.

The UK's Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO) is focused on eliminating regulatory barriers in the defence and robotics sectors. Current approval processes require businesses to navigate separate regulations for aviation, data protection, and safety, which are costly and time-consuming.
To address this, the RIO will consolidate overlapping regulations and implement a 'Front Door' pilot scheme for businesses to influence regulatory measures. Furthermore, the UK Government is establishing five robotics adoption hubs, launching in the second half of 2026, aimed at supporting firms in integrating robotics into their operations.
