UK's Type 83 Destroyer Program Enters Concept Phase
The UK Future Air Dominance System (FADS) program has commenced its concept phase following the approval of its Strategic Outline Case in 2025. This program is critical for shaping the Royal Navy's future air defense capabilities.

The Future Air Dominance System (FADS) program, which includes the Type 83 Destroyer, is currently in its concept phase. Approval of its Strategic Outline Case occurred in 2025, with future phases contingent on subsequent approvals aligned with the Defence Investment Plan.
The Type 83 is designed to replace the Royal Navy's six Type 45 destroyers, anticipated to enter service in the mid-2030s. The program aims to integrate advanced systems, including next-generation radars and uncrewed platforms such as the Type 91 missile ship. Decisions regarding fleet size and configuration will be finalized in later stages.
